We have had a tremendous response to our new Bear Creek Hard Cider! Saturday, June 30th we will celebrate Wise County’s first hard apple cider, and our farm life with “A Day in the Country”. You are invited to join us for a delicious lunch, games on the lawn, popcorn, cotton candy, wine sno-cones and a visit with some local vendors. We will also be celebrating new 2018 products like our Sparkling Kelliokee wine and MountainRose Maple Syrup!
There’s even more to celebrate when Bear Creek may even be good for you! Hard cider is made from pure apple juice, so it offers the same health benefits. Hard cider contains plenty of vitamin C and a considerable number of antioxidants. In fact, there are more antioxidants in hard cider than in green or black tea or vegetables like tomatoes. Traditional hard cider is also gluten-free. In addition, hard cider is much lower in alcohol than wines or spirits.
Craft ciders like ours are seeing the most growth in sales across the country. According to the University of Vermont, hard cider production across the country has increased by 73 percent since 2008. Many farmers have jumped on the bandwagon as well. In 2014, 18 million bushels of fruit were used for cider production, yielding 54 million gallons of hard cider. Wise County, once the second largest apple-producing county in Virginia, now has a great opportunity to grow apples again!
Join us and celebrate our region’s history and future at the same time! MountainRose is your local vineyard and mountain playground. We are proud of our history of production, in apples, coal, grapes, maple syrup, wines and hard ciders…but most of all FUN!
